A Family Itinerary
From giant trolls and harbor adventures to swimming, paddling and evenings by the bay, Boothbay Harbor is made for family getaways.
At Linekin Bay Resort, you don't have to choose between a relaxing resort vacation and exploring the Maine coast. With waterfront activities right outside your accommodations and some of the Boothbay region's favorite family attractions nearby, you can enjoy a little of both.
Planning a long weekend or a few days away with the kids? Here's one way to spend three family-friendly days in Boothbay Harbor, Maine — with enough flexibility to make the trip your own.
Day 1
After traveling to Boothbay Harbor, there's no need to immediately pile everyone back into the car. Make your first afternoon about settling in, exploring the resort and getting into vacation mode.
Head toward the waterfront and choose your first Maine adventure. Swim in the heated saltwater pool, grab a kayak or canoe, cast a line from the dock or simply enjoy the view across Linekin Bay.
Prefer dry land? Challenge the family to tennis, pickleball, basketball or volleyball, or slow things down with bocce, cornhole and lawn games.
Visiting during July or August? Kids ages 4–11 can enjoy Linekin Bay Resort's seasonal Kid's Camp, with activities that may include arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, outdoor adventures and tide-pool exploration.
While they're having fun, parents can enjoy a little downtime of their own.
Wrap up your first day with dinner at The Deck Bar & Grill, followed by an evening stroll, a family game or time around the oceanside fire pit.
Day 2
Today combines one of the Boothbay region's most memorable family attractions with an afternoon discovering the classic waterfront atmosphere of Boothbay Harbor.
Start at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in nearby Boothbay. But don't tell the kids you're simply going to see flowers. Tell them you're going giant hunting.
Hidden throughout the landscape are the enormous Guardians of the Seeds troll sculptures created by artist Thomas Dambo. Finding them turns a walk through the Gardens into an adventure of its own.
Families can also explore the Bibby and Harold Alfond Children's Garden, designed to encourage kids to play, discover and connect with the natural world.
Spend the afternoon along the waterfront watching boats come and go, browsing local shops and finding somewhere for lunch or an ice cream.
Cross the historic Boothbay Harbor Footbridge for another view of the harbor, then explore at your own pace. Sometimes watching lobster boats and wandering the wharves is all the entertainment a family needs.
Return to the resort for another swim, an easy dinner, a lawn game or a quiet evening overlooking the water.
Day 3
You can't spend three days in Boothbay Harbor without experiencing the coast from the water. For your final full day, choose an excursion that works for your family's interests, ages and sense of adventure.
Boothbay Harbor offers several ways to get out on the water, including scenic harbor cruises, sailing excursions, lighthouse tours and wildlife-watching trips.
Visiting during puffin season? A cruise toward Eastern Egg Rock may give your family a chance to spot one of Maine's most famous seabirds. Visit our guide to seeing puffins in Maine to learn more.
Because cruise schedules, trip lengths, wildlife activity and weather vary throughout the season, choose the experience that works best for your family.
After your morning on the water, come back to Linekin Bay and let everyone choose a favorite activity one more time.
Maybe it's another swim. Maybe yesterday's kayak adventure needs a sequel. Maybe someone wants a pickleball rematch. Or maybe everyone is perfectly happy doing absolutely nothing for a while.
That's part of a Maine vacation, too.
