For many families, Linekin Bay Resort is a time-honored tradition that transcends the generations. Jan Landis remembers the first visit to Linekin Bay Resort in vivid detail. It was a dark and stormy night in August of 1970. She and her husband, John, then both 29, had just bought their first house. A fire was roaring in the hearth of the dining room and the sweet aroma of lobster bisque filled the air. “It was like nothing else we’d ever experienced before,” Landis says.

July 19, 2017 | Boothbay Register | Read Full Article Online

The camp I encountered in 1950 consisted of a main building which housed the dining hall, kitchen, and a small office and a couple of rooms upstairs. Next to it was the Annex, which also had a few rooms available as well as a large recreational center. The cooks stayed in an apartment in the rear. The dishwasher and boat boy had a little cabin in the woods behind the kitchen.

Update: Linekin Bay Resort

March 16, 2016 | Boothbay Register | Read Full Article Online

The other day, as I drove up the winding roads to the beloved, but a bit elderly, Linekin Bay Resort, my path was blocked by a pair of giant excavators grading a new road.

Shortly after the huge machines pounded the new gravel surface into submission, compactors started compacting the soil. Not far away, carpenters were hammering, roofers were roofing, plumbers, were, well you get the idea.

48 Hours in Boothbay Harbor + Damariscotta

July 2013 | Maine Magazine | Read Full Article Online

Linekin Bay Resort isn’t far from the center of Boothbay Harbor but the drive is just long enough to feel like you’re getting away from it all; I sit back and take a deep breath. General Manager Mark Osborn greets me as I pull in and brings me to my room—one of six in a rustic, waterfront house on the resort’s property… It truly feels like summer camp, where strangers become best friends in a matter of minutes. I don’t want to leave but pull myself away for dinner plans.

A Seaside Place to Slow Time’s Passing: Family Reconnects at Linekin Bay in Boothbay Harbor, Maine

August 5, 2012 | Boston Sunday Globe | Read Full Article Online

The day after my children’s last day of school, we packed the car and drove three hours to the outskirts of Boothbay Harbor, home for the next three nights at the Linekin Bay Resort. The general manager checked us in and then deposited us at our rustic lodge perched on a bluff overlooking the lobster buoy-laden waters. There was no television, no phone, no desk. In fact, it took me five minutes to find a three-pronged outlet to charge my phone. After going, going, going for so long, we were like four gerbils bounced off our treadmills.

“What are we going to do here?” my wife said.

Learn to enjoy each other’s company again, without the distraction of Facebook, ESPN, video games, or work. We would spend quality time together before we dispersed again.

48 Hours in Boothbay

We hop in the car and drive a short distance to Linekin Bay Resort for lunch. This place is a throwback. With all the hallmarks of a classic family summer camp, it has the same feel as Kellerman’s in Dirty Dancing. The lodge floors have a patina from years of bare footsteps and the grounds are rich with activity. I can tell that memories are made here.
